Theory of Learning

Blue Dot Education’s Theory of Learning states that people can experience transformational moments of learning and growth through shared experiences of making and doing, while also centering belonging and the group's lived experiences. We believe that ungraded, unranked learning experiences, with multiple access points where student voice leads, provide the greatest engagement and opportunity for growth. In addition, when those experiences are a connected exploration of self and the world, the entire community benefits.

Our goal is to build programs that arise from youth culture and are responsive to student voice. These programs are flexible and emergent. This will mean that, depending on the group of young people, each program will develop and be facilitated uniquely. They can flow away from set plans so that students may build a rocket in a media program or make a film in a skateboard program. Our underlying artistry is listening to student ideas and questions while finding ways to support the direction they want to take their learning. We are firm believers in this type of decentralizing, democratized learning.
